It might surprise you – from sourcing the metals for modern technology such as phones and electric cars, to developing carbon neutral energy sources, geologists play a vital role in today’s world. Dr Sian Davies-Vollum, Head of the School of Environmental Sciences at University of Derby, discusses the role of the modern geologist and how geological expertise can drive us towards environmental goals and a sustainable future.
